Is It Time To Get Ready To Rumble?
Is it tine to get ready to rumble?
They say that the Big Orange Man was elected because of serious discontent out there. There's truth in this. Maybe not everyone's on exactly the same page here. Perhaps some are more angry than others with the way things have been unfolding in recent years (some say decades).
It's a reasonable thought, isn't it?
Of course, there remain some contingent who somehow have perceived unfolding events as positive. The issues that are being addressed seemed and seem better left alone, even allowed to continue to unfold. For example, there are those who somehow have no problem with the years our borders were left unattended, allowing a massive inflow of people, many (maybe most) of whom entered our country not only illegally, but with backgrounds less than desirable (to put it mildly). How people think this is OK is a mystery. But some do.
Setting aside those who voted for the status quo, we're left with what seems a majority of those to some degree discontented. And while the stock market continues to churn mostly positive, it has wobbled somewhat in recent weeks. Some think it's indicating a bit of discontent of its own. On the other hand, Gold has been on what can only be described as a tear, heading consistently to new highs. They say this indicates a flight to safety of some sort. And bonds, whose yields have remained stubbornly high have held onto the trend of the beginning of a long (as in years-long) trend of higher yields, which translates to lower prices.
Then again, markets do always retain a hint of capriciousness. So in the near term, anything can happen. (A hedge if ever there was one.)
Whatever your view of how things have gone, we bring this guy's views to the table. He's someone we've followed in the past (although not much in recent years). And one thing we can say is he's no fool. He's got a brain. He's made some cogent comments in the past that we've had to agree with. Here he summarizes just a few highlights of the events that have fostered concern and discontent. And these point avoid some of the more politically incendiary issues that get some folks worked up beyond civility.
He's basically saying that the recent election has led to some form of real upheaval of the established order that's been firmly in charge for a long time. To wit:
Consider the issues we faced that nobody seemed to know what to do about, or how to even begin fixing.
The US has the least healthy, shortest-lived population out of every developed country.
The US spends the most, by roughly a factor of 2x more than all other developed countries on its health care, more accurately called sickcare.
US public high school students test out extremely poorly compared to other developed countries in math and reading.
The US government taxes heavily yet still slips $2 trillion deeper in the hole every year, and is more than $36 trillion debt.
Every year on an accrual basis the Social Security and Medicare/caid liabilities expand by many trillions and now total somewhere north of $200 trillion.
In other words, the US is broke, stupid, and fat. And it was getting worse with every passing year.
This is what the last election was actually about. A majority of people said, “Enough!” and voted for real change. Along the way the people who like the system exactly the way it is got nervous about Trump’s chances and tried to kill him in Butler PA on July 13th, 2024.
(Excerpted from this article.)
He may be right for the most part. Of course, some folks who've gotten worked up don't necessarily know or understand things in exactly this way. But one might say that this view holds at least a degree of merit.
The last part - the "Enough!" would be the part that has gotten some folks ready to rumble. The thing is, will the rumble consist of continued interest and therefore pushing for change in relatively civil manner.
Maybe more important is the rumble-ready state of those who were just fine with things as they were.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves here. So far, it's been more grumbling, with commensurate action taken, rather than outright rumbling. For the sake of a peaceful world, let's hope the "ready to rumble" remains an expression rather than trigger.
