Let's Talk About Gun Control

Whatever you might think about the subject of gun control, most people I've heard or spoken with have an opinion based more on emotion rather than any attempt to use their reason or common sense. So when I came across this testimony, I wanted to share it with you and challenge you to listen carefully to this gentleman. He presents his ideas in an organized fashion. He cites both the Constitution and his own personal experience to advance his argument. He does get emotional, even heated at times, but his emotion doesn't carry his argument.

We need people with the ability to think clearly and express their ideas as a general rule. Civil society depends on this. I understand the emotions some people feel when it comes to the issue of gun control, but that's not an excuse to let emotion rule reason. Our society will collapse if we let emotion rule reason.

Yes, I realize many believe we're already well down this road and may despair of ever being able to reign in those who really can't think and who base their judgments strictly on emotion. All I can say is that such people have always existed. Those of us who make it our business to base our judgments, our important decisions, on reason can't afford to despair. If we do, the irrational and emotional folks will rule the day.

So please watch this and really try to listen. If you disagree with this guy's points, base your disagreement on reason. If you listen carefully to what he says about the Constitution, and about the simple fact that our laws are not based solely on what politicians say they should be and disagree, then on what basis do you disagree and on what would you base our laws? If you don't know, or if you don't understand what I'm talking about, you should withdraw from speaking about gun control and keep your mouth shut.

But, c'mon just give your brain a chance here. Listen, understand, and then, on the basis of your reason, react or respond. Believe me, this gentleman does not advance any arguments that you won't be able to clearly understand if you pay attention.

Oh, and you should know that this guy is the father of a child involved in the New Town, CT shootings. Thank God his child was not hurt. So he does have the right to command your attention, right?

Anyway here's the testimony:
