Stock Markets Stop Falling, Obama Starts Weeping

Stock markets around the world halted their dramatic drops on Tuesday. Whew! Don't you feel much better? You do? Well, you shouldn't. Really. Because if you felt relief on Tuesday, that means you must have been tied up in knots on Monday. And if you were tied up in knots on Monday, you need to re-read what we posted on Monday, before the stock market actually tanked. It's all good (naturally), but the part about having an Emergency Fund may be the best slice of that pie. To whit:
"...you may want enough in your Emergency Fund such that you not only can handle any conceivable upset to your apple cart, but also enough such that you can sleep at night, no matter what's happening in the markets. An old expression advises us to "sell down to your sleeping level." It means if you find yourself fretting as you watch principle diminish during this or that financial storm, sell down to the point where your stop fretting and can simply watch the fireworks in a calm, unaffected manner.
Put simply, emotional decisions are the bane of the aspiring successful investor."
Now on to our precious President Obama. By Executive Order, gun control laws will be tightened. Whatever you think about our current laws, about gun ownership, etc., you've got to be concerned when your President issues Executive orders. Even if you agree with them. We don't need our Chief Executive dictating laws unilaterally. That's a job for the Congress. (Of course Congress hasn't lived up to its responsibilities as our legislative body for so long now, it wouldn't be surprising if you've forgotten that we even have a Congress.)

But what's worse than the Great Dictator declaring new law were the tears shed as he did so. If you're going to be Stalin, or Hitler, or Mussolini, then act the part. No tears please. Be a man and slam your fist down on the table and let everyone know who's in charge! C'mon, what's with the drama? We all know the man's pretty much failed at Presidential leadership. But can't this just act the part of dictator the right way? Dictators don't weep! Heck, can you picture a President Trump crying if he ever got a shot at being Chief Executive?

With the stock market and the Constitution beginning 2016 on a decidedly down note, we have to wonder what the rest of the year holds in store for us ordinary folks. Well, at least you can work on that Emergency Fund. You have to think it'll come in handy.
