What Can You Say?
What can you say about the goings-on out there?
First we've got the stock market. New highs continue in the face of historically high valuations.
In the face of this, what can you say?
Then there's the economy. It's touted to be resilient. So much so that we're not not only seeing claims of a "soft landing," but also something new: "no landing."
No landing? I guess that means that the economy will simply trudge on forever. No more recessions, no more business cycle - just ongoing happy times forever.
Of course, if you're not one of those who are doing well - and we can guess who "they" are - you're not impressed by all the statistics that purportedly show that the economy is just fine.
In the face of all this, what can you say?
And lest we forget - as it seems most financial wizards who report the news do - gold has hit an all-time high. Not only that, but it's been the strongest asset this year. And not just in the U.S.
Of course, you won't hear this most places. It's glitzy stocks and the dressed up economic stats that garner all the glory.
That's OK. If Gold really is in a Bull Market - as we think it is - you're happy when the rest of the world ignores it.
(Then again, apparently Costco's venture into selling 1 oz gold bars in their stores has been going gang-busters. What''s that about?)
Frankly, an easy argument can be made that Gold is the real deal, as opposed to the stock market and the economy. Be that as it may, what can you say?
But wait! Let's not forget the Big Kahuna: the Election.
Yes, we're less than a month away from voting in what everyone's calling the most important election of our lifetimes. (How many times have you hear that one?)
Then again, it seems many (most?) locations have extended voting times these days. Setting that aside, there still is an official day to vote. And it's a-comin'.
Not saying the election is a big yawn. It could be a trigger for all sorts of trouble, depending on who does or doesn't win.
And who might that be? K. Harris and D. Trump of course.
Now, just consider each. You likely know at least something about who these people are and what they stand for...er, maybe not what they really stand for - especially one of the two who shall remain nameless.
But the point here is, are these really our choices for President of the United States. These two?
It does seem to get stranger and stranger every four years or so - for at least a couple of decades. If you're not sure what that means, you haven't been paying attention.
With all that in hand, what can your really say about this election?
Well, maybe this: All of the above will be affected in more ways than we might imagine. Good? Bad? We'll soon find out.
And when we do, we may actually have something to say.
