In Case You Thought Our Leaders Were Smart...

Some of you probably still believe that our leaders are smart. Not that there's any particular reason you would think this, given the fact that politicians by no means need to be smart to succeed. But some persist in believing that to get to the top - as in the guys and gals in the the federal legislative branch (Congress), the executive branch (the White House) and the judicial branch (the federal court system, topped by Supreme Court), must be somehow intelligent to get where they are. Why I'm not sure. For example, here's the Vice President of the United States commenting on the opening of the health care marketplace websites:
On Wednesday, Vice President Biden apologized for the disastrous rollout of the federal health-care website, saying that he and President Obama thought that the website was ready, but didn’t understand it themselves.

“Neither he and I are technology geeks, and we assumed that it was up and ready to run...”
If you're not sure how incredible this comment really is - and how stupid - picture yourself buying the newest Apple Mac and finding that it works about as well as the health care exchanges do right now, meaning it basically doesn't do anything that a computer should do. Now picture Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, in response to your inquiry as to what the heck he was thinking when he OK'd the release of this new version of the Mac, explaining that, well, he's not a tech geek (he is, after all, an operations guy by background), so he just assumed it'd work.

Absurd, yes?

So how does Biden get away with saying what he just said without being laughed out of office? Or, if he is indeed speaking for the President, as he claims, how is it that Obama isn't also laughed out of office?

If you wouldn't even expect a comment like this from Tim Cook, never mind accept it, without thinking he was a complete incompetent and an idiot, why would you react any differently to these two esteemed "leaders" of our?

No, our leaders not only don't have to be intelligent to achieve high office, they, in fact, typically are about as far from intelligent as you can imagine.

What's that you say? It's not so much that Biden isn't intelligent as that he's so removed from reality, or  possibly/probably so arrogant that he thinks he can get away with making what only "appears" to be a stupid, vapid comment like this. Oh, I see, that makes it so much better. He's not really stupid, he's just saying something stupid because he doesn't give a darn about how he sounds, because he's so far above all of us that reality or what we think really doesn't matter to him. Yes, that's much better.

Well, you know what, you're close. It's that and that he - and most of our leaders - are that stupid. Really. I challenge you to just listen to what they say most of the time and tell me where their comments aren't some combination of arrogance and stupidity. Any reasonable person will come to that conclusion. If you don't think so, try doing what I suggest; then tell me how you can still think that our leaders are smart.

If interested, here's the entire interview:

Based on his last comment, you might think all lawyers were as stupid as politicians (most of whom happen to be lawyers), but I assure you they're not - at least some of them. You may, however, be disabused of the notion that you have to be smart to be a lawyer. Based on what you just witnessed, cllearly that can't be right.
