Violence, Blood and Death in Ukraine
We started following the Ukrainian people's protests against their government in December. Sadly, it's come to this: over 20 dead, over 1,000 injured in various Ukrainian cities, as the government decided to use deadly force in even greater measure than they have in the past.
I'm not expert in these matters, but it looks to me like the Ukrainian people won't back down after this expected assault. And I suggest we pray for them in their continuing demonstrations and protests. I'm talking about us everyday people. Because it's our fellow everyday, ordinary people who are taking the brunt of the Ukrainian government's vicious, deadly attacks.
I wonder now whether we're looking at a scene that may someday play out here in our own country. As the middle class continues to struggle with dwindling income, we may be reaching a breaking point for many ordinary Americans. And as the President more and more rules by Executive order, there does appear to be a trend more and more toward a tyrannical government - one whose only concern appears to be the preservation of power and privilege.
But rather than wonder or speculate, it's more appropriate for us, I think, to pray. We pray for those suffering and dying. We pray for their families. We pray that their suffering and sacrifice might result in their oppressive tyrannical government turning away from the murder of its people towards a more just resolution of this crisis.
Here's a sampling of the reporting from Kyivpost.com. We've commented in the past about one of the reporters here, Katya Gorchinskaya and how her reporting may have been used by the Wall Street Journal to twist the truth about what's been going on in Ukraine. Here she reports the awful facts:
