Got Anxiety During the Covid Mess? Skip the App and Try This

This Covid mess has apparently caused a lot of anxiety for a lot of folks. Some anxiety is OK; but for some, the levels are simply too high. It's not healthy. So now you find ads for apps that purportedly calm you down. Clever. If it works for you, great.

While my own anxiety levels haven't been all that bad, there have been times when I've needed to step back, breathe deep, and seek a level of calm that allows me to get on with my work. It happens during normal times; it's happened a bit more during these decidedly not-normal times. (Will "normal" times ever return?)

But rather than an app, when I need something to supplement my break and my breathing, music usually does the trick. Not any music, mind you. Some seriously beautiful, calming stuff.

Of course, not everyone has the same taste in music. So what I'm recommending may not be your style or taste. But even if it's not, give it a try. It's a short piece by CPE Bach - a Sonata for Flute, Violin, and Piano. And it's especially effective as an antidote to the swirling confusion caused by misinformation, deception and lies that fly at us from every source of media - social and otherwise (a subject for another time maybe).

Listen to this piece when you're not distracted. The piano provides steady support. The Flute and Violin "talk" to each other, back and forth. Then at times, their melody lines come together in perfect harmony.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if communication between people in this time of crisis could be like that? But let's not go there now. Let's just let the music speak for itself.
