David Petraeus Resigns: What Really Happened
Petraeus' resignation was announced late Friday, according to the protocol used by government to minimize such news. So right away you knew it was a big deal.
At first, it was all about his having an affair. Naturally, you wonder what's the big deal with that these days. We live in a world that no longer believes in absolute right and wrong when it comes to morality. According to the relativism that dominates our culture's ethical views, such as they are, there's no way to judge something as objectively right or wrong. So why did Petraeus resign?
Then we learned that government officials knew of the affair and there was an ongoing investigation both because of a concern that sensitive government information might have been compromised. Add to that the fact that some Florida woman was complaining that the woman with whom Petraeus had the affair was harassing her. About what? The suspicion was that the woman with whom Petraeus was having the affair suspected the Florida woman with having an affair with Petraeus too.
Well, it seems no government information was actually compromised. It seems that we don't know whether the Florida woman was also having an affair with Petraeus. Further, the investigation was focused on whether some sort of cybercrime was committed.
It's all rather far from any moral issue, because, of course, there is no moral issue - at least in a world where no objective morality exists.
So why did he resign?
The fact is, Petraeus became a liability to the gang in Washington and had to go. That's the way things work down there. It's got nothing to do with any moral issue. It's all about power, getting and keeping it. That's the only "morality" that counts in Washington. Those in power will go along with anything as long as it doesn't threaten their power. At some level, Petraeus threatened the power of enough of the power seekers and power holders. He had to go.
So they throw him under the bus. Good by Petraeus. And don't ever come back. You're out.
No more running an army, or the CIA, or entertaining thoughts of running for President. You were always expendable, and so you've been expended.
That's politics folks. It's why the Founding Fathers created a Republican form of government with checks and balances - to keep people like this under wraps, to limit their power, to protect you and me from their power seeking and power grabbing. They knew that power corrupts, but they also knew that some sort of government was needed. And so the American Republic was the compromise arrived at to get a government in place, at the same time limiting the power-hungry from doing too much damage.
And that's why the growth of our federal government is such a problem: it doesn't limit the power seekers and power grabbers ability to exert their power. Rather, it enhances their power.
Gosh, I hope you all understand this!

WASHINGTON—A complaint about potentially harassing emails sent by a woman romantically linked to Central Intelligence Agency chief David Petraeus to a second woman sparked the security investigation that led Mr. Petraeus to suddenly resign on Friday, according to people familiar with the investigation.(Read more by clicking HERE...)
