Has Berlusconi Finally Met His Demise?
We've followed the career of Silvio Berlusconi on these pages for a few years now. It's been a combination of the dramatic, the comic, the bizarre, and the sordid. In some sense, he represents a certain type of the elite oligarchy that has been driving our world into the ground while they become richer and more powerful, at the expense of the rest of us. At least that's how it appears to me.
If you think Berlusconi is a lot worse than many others who grasp for power, and enrich themselves, think again. He's just someone, it seems, who prances about in public with abandon. Maybe he's just so arrogant that he thinks he's above the law. How does that make him any different from so many other politicians and business moguls? Heck, maybe he's getting a bit touched upstairs in his dotage, and has lost some ability to control himself. I don't know.
In any case, his career of power and money (and perversion?) may have finally hit the wall. Maybe it's time to say "ciao" to Silvio:
...the 76-year-old billionaire and former Italian prime minister, was found guilty by a Milan court of paying a minor for sex and abusing the power of his office. He was sentenced to seven years in jail.
Berlusconi was also given a lifetime ban from public office, Judge Giulia Turri said in the Milan courtroom after a two-year trial.
