More Christians Killed in Middle East

Christians continue to be targeted by Islamic elements in the Middle East. This sad story details the latest outrage that occurred a couple of weeks before Easter, as well as the predicament of Christians living in the Syrian city of Hom, where the regime and its opponents are back at each others' throats, as a group of Catholic Christians celebrated Mass in the midst of the fighting.
Many were teary-eyed as they remembered Father Frans van der Lugt, a leader of their community who was shot and killed in his monastery in the besieged, rebel-held old quarter of Homs two weeks ago.
As Putin lines up his forces to chew up as much of Ukraine and other former Soviet nations as he can quickly swallow and digest, the bigger story of Christians being persecuted and killed in the Middle East - and around the world in other Muslim countries - remains under-reported. What's particularly tragic in the Middle East, however, is the fact that Christian communities lived for centuries in relative security - a security that has been shattered as radical Islamic groups fight to gain control of countries run by authoritarian regimes. While regimes like the Assad family in Syria leave much to be desired, they are the only option for Christians, since they did provide some degree of security in the past. Imagine having to support such people just so you can live to see another day, just so you can protect your family.

The real question here which the media hardly considers is why the U.S. government provides support to groups who kill Christians. Can someone please explain this? Does anyone really believe that "democracy" - whatever that means - will break out in Syria if these groups triumph? Is that why we support them? Is it because the Russians support Assad, and the U.S. is playing a geopolitical game on the backs of Christians?

Whatever the reasons, and this includes the preservation of our sources of oil, which always plays a major roll in these geopolitical strategies and tactics, can anyone justify sacrificing Christians, supporting those who not only kill them now, but have even announced their intentions to rid their communities of the Infidel Christians if they triumph?

We are a Christian nation, founded by Christian people, in case you've forgotten. These people in Syria and other countries around the world subjected to persecution and death, are our brothers and sisters. Why do we ignore them? Estimates of Christians murdered for their faith - known as martyrs - approached 100,000 last year. 100,000! Did you hear much about this?

And let's remember that these martyrs did not die because they strapped bombs on themselves and killed others, like the so-called Muslim martyrs we read and hear about. They are being killed because they publicly express their faith, period. When they are killed, they're not in the act of killing others.

We read in history about how Christianity struggled in its early centuries as it grew in the face of Roman persecution. But many more now die for their faith in our own times.
