Stock Market Open, But Happy Easter Anyway
I would have posted a "Happy Easter" wish to all yesterday but came across that story about banks easing up on their mortgage lending standards. Then again, Easter Monday, as opposed to Good Friday, the markets were all opened and it was business as usual. Then again, in Europe, bastion of secularism, cradle of the Enlightenment that spawned an anti-Christian spirit in some quarters, Easter Monday continues to be a holiday for some. Too bad that didn't spill over the Atlantic, as did the custom of closing the stock market on Good Friday.
As we pointed out about Good Friday, it's a big deal to Christians, surpassed only by Easter. With Easter Christ's sacrifice - His suffering and death - are fulfilled, as His rising from the dead demonstrates once and for all that sin has been conquered and the gates of Heaven have been opened for those who die in the state of grace, after having been closed from the time of Adam and Eve's Original Sin in the Garden of Eden when Adam ate the apple at Eve's urging.
Now, you either understand what I just said or you don't. If you don't, you can blame the educational system that has excised all things religious beginning in the 20th century. Before that, just about anyone would understand the basic facts about Adam and Eve, Original Sin, Christ's suffering, death, and Resurrection, and the whole point of it. So is the world a better place now that so many of us struggle with these ideas, either because we have no idea what they mean, or because we reject them as nonsense? I suggest it's not.
The Christian religion, with its roots in Judaism, explicitly guided the development of Western Civilization. Oh, right, Western Civilization itself has been rejected too. I forgot.
Well, for all of you who have not rejected Western Civilization, who have preserved your religious understanding of the material and spiritual world that surrounds us, who observe your Jewish-Christian traditions, steeped in an understanding of the True, the Good, and the Beautiful, I extend the warmest wishes for a Happy Easter Season. Even if we've all headed back to work, remember that this entire week we traditionally observe each day as Easter, as if each day were Easter Sunday. So yesterday would be "Easter Monday," today would be "Easter Tuesday," etc.
As I said, it's a big deal. So keep it front and center in your mind and hearts all week.
Just saying.
