Good Food, Good Wine, Good Company...Good Life

Whenever you have access to good food and good wine, especially when shared with good company, your life becomes, well, good too. I'm not minimizing important issues like whether you live a life informed by virtue in a society of people informed by virtue, ruled by a government whose laws mirror that virtue, one that respects the personal liberty of those acting in accord with Natural Law - as opposed to degenerate societies filled with self-indulgent, narcissistic individuals whose only care in life is more pleasure and power, perhaps ruled by a tyrannical government comprised of a privileged oligarchy, which more or less describes one or both of the conditions under which much of the world lives. But good food, good wine, good company can provide a reasonably effective buffer against the incursions of oppressive social surroundings.

And so this typically slow week of work and news - the week leading up to Labor Day here in the good 'ol USA - allows for moments of meditation on life.

Then again, such a break in the hectic pace in daily life leads, for too many of us, to the aforementioned self-indulgence, combined with isolated interactions with our electronic-digital gizmos. If you're being dragged in this direction, dig in your heels while there's still time. Halt the slide down the slippery slope of relativism, which leads you to believe that you are the center of the universe who creates your own "value system" based on how you "feel" about everything. Seize the precious moments of respite this week provides to get back in touch with the True, the Good, and the Beautiful, all of which can be captures by spending time sharing good food, good wine in the company of good people.

And in case the words "the True, the Good, the Beautiful" don't widen your eyes or ring in your ears, due to years of self-indulgence, narcissism and enslavement by your collections of tech gizmos and the ubiquitous apps that seem to control much of our daily lives these days, take a deep breath and listen to this gorgeous piece of music sung by two of the finest singers out there today - and no, I'm not referring to Beyonce and Lady Gaga. If this doesn't generate a glimmer of understanding of what I mean by the True, the Good, and the Beautiful, if it doesn't produce at least a tiny warm glow in that worldly tech-worn breast of yours, you need to get to work turning your life around.
