Turkey Bombs Syria: Bigger Middle East War Beginning?

This could be the first step in a widening Middle East hot war.

(Reuters) - Turkish artillery hit targets inside Syria after a mortar bomb fired from its territory killed five Turkish civilians while NATO called for an immediate end to Syria's "aggressive acts".

Meanwhile the Iranian currency, the rial, has lost 50% of its value in less than a week, presaging a complete collapse of the currency. The U.S. government claims that the currency is buckling because of sanctions against Iran. This strikes me as another leg in the currency war that began in 2010, as described in James Rickards book Currency Wars.

A protest and scuffles with police occurred in central Tehran on Wednesday in the first sign of public unrest over Iran's plunging currency, which this week has lost more than half of its value.

We can't know for sure, but these are the sorts of incidents that can easily lead to local conflicts exploding into regional war. If the U.S. is involved (and it is), then it ultimately gets dragged into the mess even further.
