U.S. Builds Presence in Asia

The U.S. military continues to build its forces in Asia. It all started in 2012. We suspect it will continue in 2013:

(Reuters) - U.S. and Philippine officials are expected to agree on an increase in the number of U.S. military ships, aircraft and troops rotating through the Philippines, Filipino officials said, as tensions simmer with China over its maritime claims.

Though he made no direct reference to the territorial disputes, new Chinese Communist Party chief Xi Jinping urged his military to prepare for a struggle.

We've had a steady military presence there since the Spanish-American War at the end of the 19th century. Over 100 years and still going strong! Can't get enough of a good thing?

Apparently the Chinese don't think it's so great. When we first sent our troops "over there" China was weak, dominated by foreign powers, a real mess. A lot has changed since then - except maybe for the U.S. government's desire to keep troops there.

Some see this as part of a "geopolitical strategy." Better watch out or one of these days someone's going to start shooting.
