Next Step Towards War with Iran

It's getting on a year since we last looked at the possibility of war with Iran. Back then, our focus was on why the U.S. government would want to go to war with Iran. The Iranian government's development of nuclear weapons was one reason, and that reason hasn't subsided, despite the passage of time.

Now, after over a year of sanctions imposed by the U.S. government to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, the Wall Street Journal now opines that the sanctions imposed on Iran haven't been enough:
"...the sanctions are beginning to look more like an excuse for delay than a course of effective action. At a minimum, if sanctions were effective they would be making Tehran more amenable to a deal, not less.

If Mr. Obama really weren't bluffing, we would be adding to our military strength in the region, and toughening our position at the bargaining table. That we're doing the opposite tells Iran that the Administration is bluffing after all."
Apparently the Journal fears that Obama's only bluffing, and the Iranian government knows this. So they want more military hardware and personnel sent to the area. And you know that until Iran somehow caves in and "surrenders" whatever capability they have of producing nuclear weapons, there will be calls for more weapons and soldiers until...well, you have to figure war is the goal here, right? What else could it be?

Of course, Iran might somehow "back down" but do you really believe they will? And if they do, will anyone believe them? Does this ever end - except in a war at some point? We'll see.

Meanwhile, we already know that Pakistan holds multiple nuclear weapons. We're not at war with them, are we? Oh, right, they're an "ally" of the U.S. Well then, what about North Korea? They've even threatened to attack the U.S. homeland with nuclear weapons. We're not at war with them, are we? What's that you say, just give it time? Maybe.

Well, I suppose we can simply conclude at this point that, when it comes to making war, the U.S. government's menu of choices continues to expand. The thing is, there's only so much war you can make with our current capabilities. But never fear, as more troops pull out of Afghanistan, can the next war be far behind?
