Health Care Reform ("Obamacare") a Huge Poltical Football

Now that the so-called "Employer Mandate" (basically tax penalties for companies that don't offer health insurance) has been delayed one year, the Congress has considered delaying the "Individual Mandate" (tax penalties for individuals who don't buy health insurance). The Republicans will take full advantage of the opportunity to make the point that it's unfair to delay one and not the other. They will also attempt to paint a picture of a government program that's so complex and convoluted that even the government is backing off of its major initiatives. In fact, they may even hint that some of the government's initiatives may be overturned in some way, leaving the impression that the program itself is in jeopardy.

(You can bet the Republicans won't remind you that the federal government's program used the mandatory Massachusetts state health care program as a model - a program initiated and passed under the leadership of the Republican presidential candidate in 2012, Mitt Romney, when he was governor of Massachusetts.)

But whatever happens with the Individual Mandate, when all is said and done you need to understand that much of the Health Care Reform program has already been in place since 2010. So don't fall for the idea that somehow Obamacare is going to be overturned by the Republicans on behalf of us little people and the big corporations that employ us, as well as small business owners. So don't fall for any of their posturing and political shenanigans.

Personally, I've undertaken to study the whole "Affordable Care Act" and the gazillion regulations it has already spawned. So in the future, we'll take a look at all this as it continues to unfurl.

Notice I said "unfurl" not "unravel." While it may seem that it's unraveling to some, it's not. It's here to stay. Get used to it. And don't kid yourself.
