Riots in Baltimore Aren't About Police Brutality

Rioting in Baltimore escalates and now the National Guard will be called to protect people and property. The sister of the man who died in police custody was reported to have said:
“I don’t agree with the violence that they’re doing to the city -- it’s too much,” she told reporters. “I don’t think that’s for Freddie. I think they’re doing violence for something else.”
Indeed.

We all know the statistics: Most crime in cities is committed by blacks, and most of their victims are black. These riots will likely prove no exceptions. In the tragic tradition of inner city riots in our country, black neighborhoods will be degraded to the detriment of those who live there.

Remember the scenes from Baltimore the next time there's an incident involving the police that results in rioting. The point here isn't to deny that certain police officers act badly, sometimes horrendously. The point is simply that the connection between their actions and the riots that ensue is tenuous, at best.

In case you're not familiar with what's going on, here's a short video to bring you up to speed. As you might suspect, you can find lots of videos from Baltimore on Youtube.
