The Pope's Hammer and Sickle Crucifix

So by now, the video of the Bolivian President giving Pope Francis a crucifix in the shape of the Marxist hammer and Sickle has made the rounds. What the Pope actually said in response and whether he reacted positively or negatively isn't all that clear in the video. The image, though disturbs.

The hammer and sickle, used by Communist and other Marxist regimes throughout history, represents the very worst of totalitarian brutality in a world filled with oppressive governments. How anyone could present such an item to a Pope boggles the mind. Isn't the Pope the head of the Catholic Church a/k/a the Vicar of Christ on earth? And you hand him a symbol of an ideology that openly espouses atheism and all too often has justified the worst crimes against humanity - e.g., mass murder, torture, imprisonment without trial - in order to aggrandize power in the hands of a few. Those few, of course, claim to represent "the people" and to keep "the people" content, they steal from anyone who produces anything and give the stolen goods to "the people." Great system.

I could go on, but I won't. Suffice it to say that we live in a world where those who object on moral grounds to behaviors that since the dawn of mankind were considered obscene, sinful, and perverse become branded with the epithet "judgmental"; a world where any reference to God somehow breaches a phony claim that our society stands for "separation of church and state"; a world where Christians, simply by behaving as such, are fast becoming pariahs to be weeded out of respectable society, targets of mocking, law suits, and round condemnation by those who in the past would have kept their proclivity for sinful behavior behind closed doors rather than parading it in the bright lights of "reality TV" media.

And thus, in this context, we witness this abhorrent scene of Bolivian President Morales, all duded up and grinning, play-acting for the benefit of Marxist propaganda, using the Pope as a kind of useful idiot for his propagandizing activities. I suppose Morales thinks this makes him look good to those suckers who fall for his Marxist claptrap.

As for the Pope, no comment. But you have to wonder how he found himself in this position, given that exchanges of gifts are carefully planned ahead of time. Did he know Morales would give this offensive trash to him?
