Is U.S. War With Syria Now Taking Shape?

We've been following these developments for over a year. Back in April, 2012, I thought it might be war with Iran. Then Turkey bombed Syria and we wondered if perhaps the size and scope of war possibilities simply expanded to include Syria. And now, it seems Syria is the more immediate target for U.S. military action:
The U.S. began refining its military options for possible strikes in Syria, officials said, and initiated diplomatic efforts to craft an international response to allegations that Syria's government killed over 1,100 civilians with chemical weapons.
The important point here is that the U.S. government is positioned virtually everywhere in the world to meddle in some way with the affairs of virtually every government on earth. In the case of the Middle East - an always unstable, volatile part of the world - this inevitably entails active military engagement, both on an ongoing basis, and then, as it now seems, on a more urgent basis.

As for the report of poison gas or chemical attacks, I haven't seen anything that clearly demonstrates that 1) these actually occurred; 2) they were perpetrated by the Assad government and not the insurgents. But I suspect that won't slow down the press to take action - military action - by the U.S. government. This time around, it appears the first steps will be involving U.N. personnel who are already in Syria to "verify" that these attacks were the result of the use of chemical weapons, and simultaneously to involve other "partners" in any military action - even though the U.S. military would clearly take the leadership and the brunt of the action.

The cycle of crisis - war - crisis - war... goes on and on. Given the dispersal of our government's activities in so many places, the possibilities are virtually endless.
